“No gold, no wedding.” That traditional Indian saying refers to a particular custom, in which brides don gold—on their bodies, heads, and faces—as a symbol of prosperity on their big day. Turns out there’s often another type of “gold” involved that has nothing to do with bling: a head-to-toe tonifying skin mask made with our favorite golden superfood.
Turmeric, that is. We’ve been obsessed with this sunny spice for a while—and it’s been a go-to for Indian brides for decades. Our easy DIY facial treatment is anti-inflammatory and rich in antioxidants and probiotics, and inspired by what’s known as the “Indian Bridal Glow Mask.” For summer, we’ve whipped up a lighter version by subbing in almond milk for yogurt.

1 teaspoon turmeric
3 tablespoons almond milk
1 teaspoon raw honey
Put on an old T-shirt to avoid staining. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Apply a thin layer to the face, including the under-eye area. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes. Gently wash off with a damp washcloth. If a little yellow lingers on the skin, swipe it off with a witch hazel–infused cotton ball. Follow up with a few dabs of rosehip seed oil to replenish moisture.
