The way your dog is desperately eyeballing that chocolate chip cookie you’re noshing on is heartbreaking. Sorry pup, no can do. Well, guess what? We’ve got a recipe that’ll let you share dessert with your favorite canine companion. And it actually tastes good—promise.
Our animal-loving friends at The Dodo shared this genius recipe for a treat that both humans and dogs will go bananas for. And it’s 100 percent safe for canines. (Bonus: It can be made gluten-free.)
2 cups coconut flour
1 cup rolled oats (or gluten-free oats)
½ cup all-natural peanut butter
1 dollop of canned pumpkin (or 1 ripe banana )
1 cup hot water
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine dry ingredients in a bowl. Mash the pumpkin (or banana) and mix into dry ingredients, along with peanut butter and water. If necessary, add more flour until the dough is firm.
Knead dough, and roll until ⅓ inch thick. Break out your cookie cutters make some fun shapes. Arrange each piece on a greased cookie sheet and bake for 40 minutes. Cool treats completely and store in a jar in the refrigerator for three weeks or up to six months in the freezer.
Last step: Break bread (read: cookies) with your dog! But like most treats, make sure to only indulge your dog on special occasions.
